THE final curtain call of the Burtonwood Amateur Music and Drama Society's latest show was a bitter sweet moment for many members of the group.

After four performances of John Morley`s version of Puss in Boots at St Michael’s Parish Hall on Chapel Lane, the group of actors and actresses had to bid a fond farewell to one their longest-serving members.

After 32 years of hard work in the society, director Jan Adair enjoyed her final performance on Saturday, March 12.

Brian Maffitt, chairman, described it as the only down side to the series of shows.

He said: “Jan did a tremendous job while at the society and leaves after 32 years of loyal and dedicated service.

“As she moves on to pursue new interests the society wishes her all the best for the future.”

The panto was hailed as a success by the chairman after hours of rehearsal time was spent honing the performances.

He said: “The main character Puss in Boots was played with gusto and confidence by Megan Ratcliffe while the arch villain Black Velvet could not have been more evil with Leigh Nash delivering a commanding performance.

“King Bulbo of Holland played by John Hickey and Maryanne Gleason’s Queen Tulip supplied most of the humour and contributed to the scenes flowing well.

“Gemma Hickey who stepped up to the role of Princess Daffodil and Morgan Lea as Arthur Miller both gave convincing performances as the young lovers.

“Hannah Aspinall as Maxine Miller and Jessica Ratcliffe as Glenda Miller combined brilliantly to transform into the mischievous duo while The Queen of Catland aka Sondra Butterworth delivered an enigmatic rendition of Holding out for a Hero.

“Isabella Nash fitted in well as her character Hannah the Magic Cobbler gave a superb contrast to the rest of the cast fitted in well.

“For a debut performance Dallas Redican did really well as Lord Edam and enjoyed the part immensely.

“All the other supporting spooks, rabbits and villages added to a really good show by the society while Julie Bold, Amy Williams and Katy Gormally supplied the music and dance routines.”
