A WESTBROOK student from Cronton Sixth Form is delighted to have been selected as a member of the newly formed Youth Panel for the Action for Stammering Children organisation.

Michael Scott, who is currently studying a BTEC Extended Diploma in IT at the College, was chosen from hundreds of applicants aged between 13 and 21 for a role with the Stammering Network.

The 16-year-old from Westbrook has since taken part in the inaugural summit for stammering which took place at City Lit College in London where he had the opportunity to meet Ed Balls who was a key note speaker at the event.

The former St Gregory’s Catholic High School pupil, who had to complete a 500 word application, said: “I have had a stammer since I was three or four years old, so I was able to include all of my experiences in the application.

"I also explained why I would like the opportunity to make a difference at a national level. I have overcome a lot and I feel like I would be able to help other young people.

"I was extremely proud to have been chosen as one of the ten people on the youth panel and the trip to the event in London was a great experience."

Balshen Izzet, chief executive of Action for Stammering Children said: “Michael is a very smart and impressive young man.

"We were blown away by him.

"He has great experience and will bring a good understanding of campaigns to the table."
