THE roll out of fibre-optic broadband in Burtonwood is finally en-route after years of campaigning for better internet speeds.

Council leader Terry O'Neill said he was delighted that one cabinet is already live, one is currently being installed and two more are expected to be implemented imminently in the village.

All four cabinets are expected be completed by the end of November.

Cllr O'Neill (Burtonwood and Winwick - LAB) has been campaigning for years to secure faster internet speeds for residents and has previously organised a number of meetings with BT to push for a quicker roll out.

He said: "I have been chasing better broadband speeds for a long time – with BT and BT Open Reach.

"Residents who now sign up to the fibre-optic broadband should see an improvement in their internet speed."

Earlier this year, the Warrington Guardian reported how residents in Burtonwood faced a postcode lottery as only some homes were set to benefit from fast broadband speeds.

Others houses would be forced to wait until the end of the year due to a delay in the roll out of the broadband network.

But it seems finally all residents will have access to better internet speeds after several delays due to 'unforeseen circumstances'.

The roll out was originally expected to take place last November following an announcement by BT.

The connection of Burtonwood to the fibre broadband network was being completed by BT as part of its commercial rollout.

BT is expected to spend around £3 billion to complete its UK rollout which is being done in a number of stages across Cheshire and the UK.

But it’s not just Burtonwood who are set to benefit from faster broadband with the cabinets in Winwick Park are expected to go live by the end of the year.

If you are one of the lucky few to already have access to fibre-optic broadband we want to hear from you.

Have you noticed a major difference after signing up?
