School followed correct procedures following gas leak scare

A BEST practice investigation into an evacuation of Callands Primary School will enable to teachers to reflect on what worked well and what could be improved with small changes.

Earlier this month, staff and pupils were forced to evacuate the school after the fire alarm was triggered.

Although there was no fire, it was suspected that the alarm had been set off due to a gas leak.

But, following an investigation, it is believed a dust particle entered the fire alarm sensor.

In a newsletter published on the school's website, it read: "The Fire Service attended the site, as did the LA Gas Servicing Company.

"The advice of both was followed at all times and, during this time, the actions taken were discussed with the Local Authority senior advisers.

"They believed that all actions taken by school were the correct ones."
