Burtonwood manager completes charity challenge

A TEAM of four north west Frankie and Benny’s managers including one worker who covers the restaurant in Burtonwood have completed a charity cycle in aid of Rays of Sunshine

Vicky Stevens, who works as Frankie and Benny’s area manager from Warrington, took on the Tour De Frankie’s challenge - a two day 140 mile cycle to raise funds for a children’s charity that grants wishes for seriously ill children.

She was joined by Charlotte Moul, Kelly Mangan and Nicola Craig.

The team of cyclists travelled between seven restaurants, starting in Morecambe through Blackpool, Preston, Wigan, Southport and Aintree before finishing in Edge Lane, Liverpool.

The team has raised more than £900 for the charity so far.

Vicky said: “I am absolutely thrilled I completed the Tour De Frankie’s 140 mile cycle challenge – the months of training were definitely worth it.

"It was gruelling at times but knowing that our efforts would help grant magical wishes kept us all motivated at each and every mile. We feel incredibly proud to have completed this challenge.”

Planning application for former home of war veteran approved

PLANS to build a new bungalow on the same site where a fire engulfed a house killing a war veteran have been approved after being resubmitted to the council.

The house, on Gerosa Avenue in Winwick, was destroyed after a blaze broke out on Monday, July 7, 2014 killing 94-year-old Samuel James.

Blueprints to build a bungalow on the now derelict land were submitted to the planning authority earlier this year but were refused.

The proposed development was turned down as it represents an inappropriate form of development in the green belt.

The decision, which has been published on the council’s website, claimed the bungalow would result in a loss of openness and harm to the character and appearance of Gerosa Avenue and Golborne Road.

But applicant Jack Chadwick said the new plans addressed the issues previously raised.

The planning application was granted subject to conditions which can be read in full on the council's planning website.

Plans for Starbucks drive-thru denied

BLUEPRINTS to build a Starbucks drive-thru at Burtonwood Services have been refused due to 'insufficient and conflicting information'.

A planning application was submitted to Warrington Borough Council seeking permission to build the facility.

But a spokesman for the planning authority said details of the proposed elevation treatment, floor plans, materials of construction and signage on the building were not submitted.

He said: "Despite written request the outstanding information has not been received and it is not therefore possible to carry out an assessment of the scheme, to determine whether it is in accordance with the development plan."
