A BURTONWOOD man who carers for his elderly mum has raised concerns about a 'trip hazard' located directly outside of their front door.
Thomas Finch, of Spurling Road, Burtonwood, has called on United Utilities to make immediate changes to the raised manhole cover by levelling the area out.
The 49-year-old has been unable to take his 77-year-old mum outside of the house since she returned from hospital around nine weeks ago.
He said: "I have brought this problem up a number of times but I feel like I am being fobbed off.
"She is in and out of hospital and she needs a wheelchair.
"It's just ridiculous and it is a trip hazard. I have told them that someone is going to hurt themselves and they will be liable."
But United Utilities spokesman said the company have tried to work with Mr Finch to find a solution.
He said: “We have been out and spoken to the customer to explain that the manhole cannot be lowered or altered due to the important equipment underneath.
"This helps prevent flooding issues to this property and neighbouring homes.
"We believe the customer is looking to install a ramp and we have offered suggestions on how this could be done, incorporating part of the manhole.”
