A GLAZEBURY resident is raising awareness about a 32-acre solar farm which he feels would be an overdevelopment on green belt land.

Applicant Earthworm Energy wants to build ground mounted solar panels for electricity production and substation buildings surrounded by a 2m fence and CCTV to the east of Light Oaks Moss Farm.

Neighbour Anthony Booth, of Old Moss Lane, fears that many villagers are unaware of the plans as they are to be decided by Wigan Council due to where the borough boundaries lie.

"Even though it will affect Glazebury little is known about it as the site is classed as being in Wigan," he said.

Other concerns are that the site is in the historic Chat Moss area and would border Windy Bank conservation site.

Mr Booth added: "Wigan Council has already passed a large wind turbine on this small farm and the access point will create extra traffic right in the centre of Glazebury village.

"Being in a remote area does not make this development acceptable. This will create an industrial site in the centre of the countryside."
