THREE major road improvement projects in Culcheth, Glazebury and Croft have been given the green light by Warrington Borough Council.

Work is due to start this month in Broadhurst Avenue and Kaye Avenue in Culcheth, Warrington Road in Glazebury and Lady Lane in Croft.

Cathy Mitchell is Labour's parliamentary candidate for Culcheth, Glazebury and Croft and helped campaign for the improvements.

She said: "When we have carried out consultations with residents to discuss their priorities, repairs to some of our most badly damaged roads regularly comes out at the top of the list.

"We know that the forthcoming work in Newchurch, Glazebury and Croft will be met with delight by residents who use these major roads, and we hope that the investment goes some way towards improving driving conditions for people in our community.”

The council plan to start work in Broadhurst Avenue and Kaye Avenue next week as part of a highway improvement scheme across Warrington.

Work in Warrington Road is set to start around February 16 and in Lady Lane around March 4.

The resurfacing will take place using a new technique called 'micro surfacing' which repairs pot holes and road defects but also provides a seal on the surface of the carriageway to strengthen it.

Cllr Chris Vobe and Cllr Matt Smith also helped campaign for the changes.

In a joint statement, they added: “We are especially pleased about the work that will be undertaken in Newchurch, as this has been at the top of our personal list for some months.

"We made a commitment to residents there that we wouldn’t let up, and our perseverance has paid off.

“These repairs will ensure that some of the worst roads in the town get the attention that they deserve at last.”
