A STOCKTON Heath councillor is tipping the new bridge across the River Mersey to reduce traffic 'polluting' the village.

Cllr Laurence Murphy (LAB – Stockton Heath) has welcomed the council's Centre Park link scheme plans which are set to see the construction of the £19.35 million site delivered by 2018.

The location of the crossing will be from the junction of Chester Road and Gainsborough Road to the southern end of Centre Park.

The project is also being tipped to deliver 630 homes over five to seven years after completion and council chiefs are confident the project will help end the town's traffic nightmare.

And Cllr Murphy believes motorists in his ward will be delighted with the construction.

"The bridge is good for Warrington as it will cut congestion around Bridge Foot and what was Brian Bevan island," he said.

"The bridge is great for Stockton Heath as it will reduce the crawl of traffic over the London Road bridge polluting the heart of our village.

"This is a worthy project and a mark of the current administration's ambition to make improvements for both business and residents alike."

The ambitious phase of the Warrington Waterfront was priced at £11 million last October but has incurred increases due to the 'additional improvements'.
