TENANTS at Broomfields Sheltered Housing (BSH) in Appleton will now be able to use a weighing chair following the kind efforts of two fundraisers.

The organisation wanted to buy the piece of equipment, which costs more than £1500, but due to a funding shortage it was unable to do so.

However, determined Scottish Power employees Sheila Hughes and Sandra Noon heard about the problem and set about helping.

The pair carried out a range of activities, including a tombola, on their way to raising the money to give tenants a boost.

A total of 57 residents receive support from BSH, which is based on Bridge Lane, and area co-ordinator Sarah Acton believes the fundraising will go a long way.

She said: "It was so kind of them to raise the money – we all really appreciate what they have done.

"We were unable to get the chair because of the cost, we could not cover it.

"As well as both of them we want to thank Scottish Power for letting them carry out fundraising activities in the office.

"Now we have the chair everyone who wants to get weighed will be able to."

BSH held its first summer fete last month, with funds raised set to go towards funding a day out to Blackpool in October.

"It was a great day and everyone enjoyed it," added Sarah.

"It was our first one which we have held but we will be doing this again because of how good it went.

"We can look forward to the Blackpool trip now – this will go towards paying for transport and tea."

The main aims of the services provided are to give tenants the facilities to support them to live as independently as possible within a communal setting.

Tenants receive support appropriate to their own needs and requirements.
