A man trapped under a toilet door is just one of the thousands of people firefighters have saved from a variety of bathroom-based disasters.

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) released data on how many people they have had to rescue after getting locked in the loo in conjunction with World Toilet Day.

Since 2011, 3,855 people have called the emergency services after becoming stuck in the lavatory.

Across Bromley, Bexley, Lewisham and Greenwich, 423 people have needed assistance after a series of mishaps.

Children, adults and the elderly have all managed to get themselves into sticky situation.

Last year in Bexley fire engines were scrambled to save a child who had a ‘toilet training device’ stuck on their head.

In total 48 peopled needed saving.

London’s biggest borough, Bromley, saw 108 people trapped in their bathrooms for a variety of reasons.

But it’s not just people who require assistance, as back in 2011 the LFB were called to reports of a dog trapped in the loo.

It is also not just home call outs, as firefighters were also needed to free people stuck in public toilets.

Bromley also had another unusual situation, this year a person somehow managed to get their leg trapped in a toilet and called 999.

Lewisham and Greenwich had a similar amount of catastrophes – 123 and 124 – over four years.

In the royal borough a person managed to wedge themselves between the toilet and the wall.

Meanwhile in Lewisham a bus driver called for help after getting trapped in a bathroom, and a man somehow got stuck underneath a toilet door.

The LFB was also called out to deal with an array of spillages from bleach to disinfectant to toilet cleaner.

They urged people only to call 999 in an emergency.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: "It's embarrassing getting locked inside a toilet but the vast majority of the call outs are not emergencies and we'd like to wash our hands of these incidents."
