SCOOBY Doo could be seen riding aboard the Mystery Machine for his latest assignment in central Bournemouth yesterday.

Passers-by had to do a double-take as the brightly decorated van weaved through the streets while blaring out theme song Scooby Doo, Where Are You from its loud speakers.

Rahim Jadavji, 33, of Corfe Mullen, dressed as Scooby, has teamed up with friend Gary Lee, who was dressed as Shaggy, to drive the refurbished Volkswagen to Monte Carlo, where it will be entered into the resorts annual ‘banger rally’ with the hope of raising £5,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

They had first mulled the idea of recreating Back to the Future’s iconic DeLorean, but later set their heart on the Mystery Machine and managed to find a van which fit the bill on eBay for £250.

Before its makeover Rahim said the vehicle had spent ten years sitting unused under a tree and was more than a little worse-for-wear.

“It looks beautiful on the outside now but the engine still sounds a bit touch and go,” he added.

“I plan to wear this onesie for eight days. It’s a bit sweaty already but I should survive.”

Gary had driven down to Bournemouth from his home in Hertfordshire to pick up Rahim and said it has already received a lot of attention.

“Everybody who sees it is smiling and laughing,” he added. “So many people I have driven past have stopped to take a picture.”
