A MAN has been taken to hospital with a gash to the head after an early morning attack in Warrington town centre today.

The 19-year-old, from St Helens, was attacked on Academy Street close to the former Kwik Save building shortly before 5am and suffered a gash to the head that police say could have come from a crow bar.

An 18-year-old woman from Prescot he was with was also attacked although there are no details of her injuries.

The man is currently being treated in Warrington Hospital after ambulance crews said he needed stiches.

Nobody has been arrested and the area is currently cordoned off.

Anyone with information should call police on 0845 458 0000.
