HUNDREDS of Shell tanker drivers have begun a four-day strike today at the Stanlow Oil Refinery in Ellesmere Port in a row over pay.

The strike will affect one in 10 of Britain's 9,500 filling stations, but the Government and the transport industries have urged motorists not to panic-buy petrol.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown has not ruled out calling in the Army to keep fuel flowing, saying the Government was willing to do "everything we can" to stop pumps running dry.

The men's union Unite says drivers from other companies, including BP, have refused to cross picket lines.

I'm not being funny here but they get paid enough already. Some of them are paid nearly £40,000. That's a hell of a lot of money in these days.

Question for mr woodley, if the drivers don't work for shell then why are his members picketing shell depots ?, maybe the public should boycott all shell stations next week so the drivers do not have to work anyway. If everyone just tanks up as normal (but from other stations) there will be no problems.

They get at least £30,000.00+. They say that's what they got 15 years ago, yer? In that case they were WELL over paid back then! Their moaning because their not allowed to drive 12 hours a day anymore and rake in the cash, along with innocent cyclists, pedastrians
,car drivers etc. It's the teachers and coppers syndrome. They all think money grows on trees. "Shell makes billions blah blah..." Set up an oil refiners and all that goes with it then!
