THE mothers of two of the Newlove murderers have defended their "decent" sons.

Margaret Sorton and Sue Swellings spoke out and said their sons were not as bad as they were being made out to be.

"My family know what he is like, my friends know what he is like and I know what he is like. That is good enough for me - and anyone else can think what they want. I am just trying to lead a normal life as best I can now," Margaret said.

"We wish it had never happened, it's just a thing which went tragically wrong.

"But this has destroyed my life. I haven't got my son at home because of this," she said.

Swellings' mum Sue said that she would be using Legal Aid to employ the best lawyer possible to represent her son during an appeal.

"I still love Adam because he is mine and nothing will ever change that," she said.

"I have spoken to him from jail and he is doing fine."

Yesterday it emerged that Swellings has boasted to his fellow inmates that Garry Newlove "deserved everything he got".

Another inmate told how the 19-year-old, from Crewe, said he was proud of what he had done and said Mr Newlove should have shown him and his gang "more respect".

The paper reported that Swellings is being held on a special wing of Altcourse prison, Merseyside, to protect him from attacks from other prisoners.

Are my eyes decieving me. It just went horribly wrong! As for detroying her life, do me a favour! If her feral child hadnt been on the street a family would still have a husband a father a friend. Legal Aid for an appeal, another fat cat lawyer making money from us tax payers. Warrington Guardian, everyone is entitled to have a say in things but I believe this is one story you shouldnt be highlighting.

I am fully aware of the legal right to representation, and the fact that legal aid is there to ensure people have the best representation t ofair play. I was more concerned with the fact that another seemingly watertight case will now be dissected by lawyers hell bent on making money. If the cause for appeal is sound then all well and good. Justice is for all, and is blind to race colour creed or social standing. If however the cause for appeal is on a technicality, then I believe this is an inappropriate useage of the justice system.legal aid is there for a reason, not to be abused

Decent sons?. Unbelievable the word "decent" can't be used for such scum, becaue "decnet" law abidding people don't kick innocent members of the public to death in the street. As for an appeal, Swellings should take the punishment like the man he thinks he is.

its a fact of life that techicalities come into play, its a matter for the law makers to correct. This case is mild compared with others and without having the full facts or even attending the trial its self, its not fair for us to give an honest opinion, What would be worth discussing is maybe its time for the british justice system to use professional jurers, and not joe puplic, as the prosecution will always try influence the jury as in so will the defendents briefs, a profession jury will not be influenced and will stick to the facts of the case.. hence the amount of misscarriages of justice in this country... moving on... I know steven sorton and i know him to be a nice lad, i am as shocked as anyone else with this case , but i want you all to remember, this could happen to any of our sons, do we know what they get up to at night, no we dont, i point the blame at the goverment, they have taken away parents rights, taken away the youth clubs... also i would like to add, my sympathies go out to the newlove family and i suppose i would feel the same way. its a very sad affair, but im sure this kind of thing will happen again unless the goverment step in and change some laws.

justice, Is for both sides, The Newlove family and those who are convicted, With the exception of Swellings there is reasonable argument for a case for the appeal court, Jurys make mistakes, The appeal judges are there only if enough evidence of doubt is in the grounds for appeal, Mrs Newlove would want the correct justice she and they are legaly entitled to have in a just society, mrsomebody has hit the nail on the head and i am 100% behind him in his comments.

Steven Sorton was a nice lad!!?? Nice lads do not kick peopel in the head with such force as to lose their trainer, then admit to their mother, 'I knew I wouldnt get away with it.' This could happen to any of our sons?! No it couldnt because my sons dont spend all night drinking fighting and being in trouble with the police. Do we know what they get up to at night. Not always but funnily enough they always come home on foot not in the back of a police car. Please tell me the reasonable grounds for the appeal, especially for Sorton. And if the answer is they didnt mean to kill him just beathim to within an inch of his life then dont bother

Overturning convictions on technicalities is both imoral and an injustice to the victims. grounds for an appeal are granted only if there are grounds. But it works both ways, If the appeal is lost they can increase the sentence and do so in many cases. Professional jury,s are the answer, The facts say a lot more than some jurys accept. As for the cost, well I am sorry but justice must be obtained at any cost. Mrs Newlove deserves that. This case has opened up a hornets nest all over the country. we all have our own feelings on the matter but at the end of the day if you dont sit in court to hear all the evidence then you cant make judgement. You cant believe all you read in the newspapers. this case went on for so long it is imposible to say how many jurers read a newspaper. ???.

I agree Its all the governments fault Theyve taken away my youth club... I must go and kick somebody to death tonight to address that imbalance. What rubbish. They are of course entitled to appeal but as for Scorton being a nice lad this is now a contradiction in terms. That's one more reason we should do away with juries all together they're too swayed by an image and not the facts.People who knew Ian Huntley would doubtless say he could be nice or charming - To give Scorton succour on these pages by lauding him as a nice lad is insensitive in the extreme. I do agrre though, the jury system needs overhauling

Justice4all and mrNOBODY both advocating professional juries - hmmm, you pair wouldn't happen to know each other would you?

And you justice4all are way out of order in your insinuation that the jury might have somehow been swayed by what they might have read in the newspapers.
