SINCE she was a little girl, Vicky Briggs had her heart set on becoming a teacher and now she couldn’t imagine doing anything else.

Her hard work, unrelenting commitment to teaching and approachable nature has clearly not gone unnoticed and the head teacher of Great Sankey Primary School has been selected as the Warrington Guardian’s teacher of the month.

The award, which is sponsored by education recruitment and training consultancy Academics Ltd, honours a deserving teacher who had made a real difference to the school.

Vicky, who has previously worked at Westbrook Old Hall Primary School and Barrow Hall Primary School, was nominated for always ‘keeping the children at the heart of everything she does’.

The mum of two from Penketh has recently stepped up to the role as head teacher in January after three years as assistant head teacher.

She said: “The children are the reason why I love my job so much. They make every day different.

“The most rewarding thing is when you see a child do something that they have not been able to do before. Their achievements make it all worthwhile.”

The former Penketh High School pupil is now determined to see the school on Liverpool Road go from strength to strength.

“I have a great team of dedicated staff around me who work incredibly hard. The parents have been really supportive too,” said Vicky.

“Teaching has become my life but I wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s great when you see children who you taught a few years ago and they remember a particular lesson or something you taught them.

“It’s something that has stuck with them and you know you have helped them.”
