PEOPLE often complain that young people spend all their time in front of a computer or hanging out on street corners, writes Charlotte Forshaw.

However, with the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme becoming more and more popular, young people have abandoned the computer and traded it in for adventure and new opportunities!

The award is available for anybody between the ages of 14 and 25 to begin working towards. There are three different stages of the award, Bronze, Silver and gold. For each stage you have to do a set period of: a skill, community service, physical recreation and an overnight expedition.

Young people are participating in the award through different groups all over Warrington. Many schools take part as well as youth groups and the explorer scouts. I spoke to a group of people who have recently been training for their Duke of Edinburgh bronze expedition. They were enjoying learning the skills needed for camping and hiking and couldn't wait for the actual thing!

So, if you are between 14 and 25 and looking to get involved in something new, the Duke of Edinburgh awards may be a good option to escape from your computer!
