GRAB your paddle, make a splash and help raise money for our charity of the year St Rocco's Hospice.
This May the ancient sport of dragon boat racing will come to town in a sporting event with a difference as the charity looks to raise as much money as possible for its day unit appeal.
The boating event will take place at Warrington Rowing Club on Sunday, May 11, and will see up to 20 teams pit their brawn and boating skills against each other in a series of timed races.
The boats hold a crew of 10 to 16 people, a drummer who beats time and a qualified helm who steers the vessel. Friends or businesses are being urged to team up and collect their sponsor money. Teams can have a maximum of 20 with the extra numbers counting as back-up. If each member of a team of 20 were to raise £50, each team could raise £1,000.
Those who might need persuading about taking part because they have never paddled before need not worry as novices are just as welcome to take part and you don't have to be super fit.
Each team will take part in at least three races on the day and trophies for the best dragon boat racers are up for grabs too.
To register your team, contact Katrina Bury or the St Rocco's Hospice Appeals Department by calling 575780 or e-mail katrinabury@ stroccos.org.uk
