Win a new house for £25! Dad raffles family home

STRUGGLING to get on the property ladder because it costs too much?

Well that may no longer be a problem as you could lay your hands on a new home, all for just £25.

Barrie Heywood has put his house, on Holly Bush Lane, Rixton, up for grabs in an online competition where people have to answer a number of questions then pay £25 to enter the draw for the property, presently on the market for £189,000.

Mr Heywood had initially bought the property next door to his first house to downsize after his children moved out – but they moved back in and are all living in their original home again.

The 62-year-old decided to put the two-bedroom semi-detatched house up for sale in such an unusual manner because when they came to sell they were in negative equity, meaning they would lose money if they sold it in the conventional way.

He said: “In the end we decided to live next door because it’s bigger with more land.

“We were wondering how we were going to sell our house and it took a lot of investigating to find our way round the gaming association.”

He got the idea after seeing a £1million estate in Devon put up in a competition and decided to set his own house up in the same way.

Fern Bank, as the property is known, boasts a detached garage and courtyard, front lounge, dining room and kitchen as well as two bedrooms and an upstairs bathroom.

Entries have flooded in, mostly from within Warrington but a few entrants have come from as far afield as Birmingham. And although no official closing date has been made, organisers hope to make the draw at around Christmas time.

Even if applicants do not answer the questions correctly they also get entered into a side draw to win £1,000 with a one in 50 chance to win the money.

And the first side draw will take place this Friday.
