DOREEN Marsh, wife of the late Leslie Marsh, died of COPD on August 6, aged 81.

Mrs Marsh, from Winwick, formerly of Sankey Bridges, lived in the Warrington area all her life.

She was first employed in the NHS than was licensee at the Sloop Hotel Sankey Bridges for 25 years, before finally owning Doreen’s off-licence and convenience store in Howley until her retirement.

In her days at the Sloop Hotel Mrs Marsh and her husband raised money for charities, including muscular dystrophy and St Rocco’s Hospice.

She was an active supporter of events at the Lodge of Lights Masonic Hall, Warrington, and had twice been chairlady of Warrington and West Cheshire Licensed Victuallers Association.

She enjoyed crown green bowls and played for the Plough Inn, liked ballroom dancing and bingo and loved spending time with friends and family.

Mrs Marsh leaves two daughters, a step-grandson, two brothers and nieces and nephews.

A service was held on August 21 at St Oswald’s RC Church, followed by cremation at Walton Lea. Canon June Steventon officiated.
