WALTER Crooks, wife of Mrs Nan Kim Crooks, died of liver failure on January 12, aged 84.
Mr Crooks, from Santa Barbara, had lived in various places in America and was born in Warrington.
He got a fellowship in the Royal Society of Chemistry at Southampton and had several jobs including working at Joseph Crosfield & Son, Imperial Paper at Stirling, Scotland, before being offered a position at the West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company, who sponsored his immigration to Pennsylvania.
He specialised in paper coatings, including some that were used on the first Gemini Space Missions.
He then moved to the research department with IBM, San Jose, California.
On retirement he moved to Santa Barbara where he continued with consultation work, played lawn bowls and followed British football.
Mr Crooks leaves his wife, two children, six grandchildren, and a sister. A private service was held.
