Conservative Boris Johnson has been re-elected as London Mayor.

He beat Labour rival Ken Livingstone after a bitter campaign which saw the two men clash furiously in public and in private.

Liberal Democrat Brian Paddick was beaten to third place by Green candidate Jenny Jones, while Independent Siobhan Benita was close behind him in fifth.

Mr Johnson said he would continue to "fight for a good deal for Londoners".

Mr Livingstone said "this is the defeat I most regret" and said: "This is my last election."
