Specialist support for the boys in blue
9:40am Saturday 7th November 2009 in News
SENIOR officers in the planning and tasking department are responsible for deploying the specialist support to uniformed police across the town.
Under their wings are the VECTOR team – the armed response unit, firearms officers, public order tactical support and the air support unit.
Competing for their backing are the serious organised crime unit, force operations as well as HM Revenue & Customs.
Sgt Marton Baker, manager of the unit, said: “We have to make sure it is correct for us to be dealing with it and decide on the priority.
“Our core business is dynamic entry, especially when there are 20 to 30 warrants to be done at once.
“We are the only unit which knows what they are doing for the day as we are booked by other departments and I can tell from what has happened in the past 24 hours how it will impact on us. For example, if a murder happens there will be a requirement for search resources.”
