One thing’s for sure – the Skoda Citigo Sport is a car you’ll get noticed in.

Not, however, in the same way you’d get noticed in a Lamborghini Aventador, for example. But mainly because the models, which come in ‘candy white’ with red stripes, ‘tornado red’ with black stripes or ‘deep black’ with red stripes, will leave people wondering whether they love it or hate it.

It is available as a three or five-door hatch, and the car’s trim is based on the current Citigo SE.

Though it may have a sporty appearance, its modest 1.0-litre, three-cylinder engine means you’re not likely to get the wow factor, but it does mean that insurance costs are realistic and it is an attractive prospect for younger drivers.

With almost 63 miles to the gallon and low emissions, decent economy adds to its appeal, with just £20 road tax to pay each year.

Key features include black 15-inch ‘Auriga’ design alloy wheels, tinted ‘sunset’ windows, a sports suspension – which lowers the ride height by 15mm – and a bespoke styling kit which includes a front and rear spoiler and a rear diffuser.

It was fun to drive the fresh-faced Citigo Sport – steering was light and bumps/ potholes were soaked up well. This is a car that’s definitely more at home in towns and cities though, hence the name.

Inside, there are distinctive black and red sports seats, a three-spoke leather steering wheel with red stitching and a leather handbrake.

The Personal Infotainment Device is a great feature – including advanced satellite navigation, Bluetooth, vehicle and trip information plus a media player which can be synced to an external music device.

It was fun using the voice-activated sat nav, but you’ll need to make sure you pronounce all your place names very clearly for it to work properly! There is a surprising amount of boot space for a car this size – 251 litres, which increases to 959 litres when you fold the seats down.

It scores highly on safety – five stars in Euro NCAP crash test ratings. The highlight of the car’s safety package is City Safe Drive, an emergency braking function, activating at speeds below 19mph. Available as an option, it uses a laser sensor built into the windscreen to scan the road up to 10 metres ahead.
