There are – quite literally – about a million ways to personalise a Vauxhall Adam and make it truly unique.

And it’s great fun too, spending hours choosing stuff like mirror covers, roof colours, wheel trims, pedal designs and trim colours, to name just a few of the options on offer in Vauxhall’s cute little hatchback.

There are certainly no bog-standard colour options either. They all have fun names instead, such as White My Fire, Buzz Lightgreen, Saturday White Fever, Papa Don’t Peach and, my personal favourite, James Blonde.

Only three petrol engines are available – the 1.2-litre 70PS, 1.4-litre 87PS and 1.4-litre 100PS. I drove the 1.4-litre that provided maximum torque of 130Nm at 4,000rpm.

The humour continues when choosing one of the three trim levels on offer – Adam ‘Jam’ (fashionable/colourful), Adam ‘Glam’ (elegant/sophisticated) and Adam Slam (racy/sporty).

The next level of customisation comes with the addition of option packs, and from here the possibilities are endless, with the choice of 12 body colours, 15 seat designs, 20 alloy wheel styles, three printed headliners and no less than 18 interior décor panels, to name just a few.

IntelliLink is the name of the infotainment system, which integrates your phone (Android and Apple) with the car, making internet-based applications available on a touchscreen.

Other features include a new-generation Park Assist that automatically parks the car, a Side Blind Spot Alert and a power steering system including a ‘light touch’ CITY mode.

Standard features include Electric Climate Control, fixed glass roof panel with sliding blind, CD/MP3 player, DAB radio, Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control and trip computer and LED daytime running lights.

Along with six airbags, safety kit includes Electronic Stability Programme-plus and Anti-lock Braking System.

Isofix child seat fasteners are fitted in the rear – it always amazes me how I manage to get child seats in and out of cars this size, but it’s possible, if not ideal.

It feels solid on the roads and grips well, especially in tight curves. It really is a fun, funky car, so much so I could probably live with the name Adam. But please, Vauxhall, don’t make an Eve.

That would be tragic.

All new Vauxhalls are eligible for the Vauxhall lifetime 100,000-mile warranty.
