Small, economical and cute – the Peugeot 107 is a godsend for younger drivers or anyone wanting a handy little city car that’s a cinch to park.

Since its launch in 2005, more than 650,000 Peugeot 107s have been sold.

It may be tiny, but this fun runaround comes in two body styles – three-door and five-door versions.

I drove the very useful five-door model – and even managed to get a child seat in the back without any trouble, using the Isofix fasteners.

Perhaps surprisingly for such a small car, it is the five-door version that outsells the three-door model, underlining the 107s’ great packaging, which makes the most of its interior space and belies its compact wheelbase to provide a vehicle that’s capable of transporting four people.

However, it is perhaps with younger drivers in mind that vibrant colours, such as this shade of metallic plum, are available, along with a host of other contemporary colours, such as citrus yellow and laser red.

Peugeot’s baby recently received a facelift, and with CO2 emissions down to just 99g/km the 107 is a little bit ‘greener’ – and there’s no tax to pay!

It also means a low 10 per cent Benefit-in-Kind company car tax rating and, for London drivers, the 99g/km variants are congestion charge free.

Its update included a new front-end and a more sculpted bonnet shape, while the headlights are sharper and there are LED daytime running lights fitted.

As part of the restyle of the range, there are three trim levels on offer – Access, Active and Allure – and prices start at an affordable £7,995 for the three-door Access model.

The 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine has 68bhp and 70lb ft of torque and is linked to a five-speed manual gearbox.

Inside, air-con is now standard in all but the most basic models, as is the addition of alloy wheels and a rev counter, while Peugeot Connect Bluetooth and USB are now available for the first time.

There are a few subtle interior changes, such as the addition of two-tone cloth upholstery.

Peugeot’s Just Add Fuel package will cover three-years’ worth of comprehensive insurance (if you are at least 25 years old), warranty, roadside assistance and servicing for a single monthly payment.

All models carry a 3E insurance group rating.
