Omega and Walton Hall top priorities
4:10pm Thursday 13th May 2010 in Local Election News
LABOUR leader Terry O’Neill says Omega and Walton Hall will be his party’s priorities if it wins control of the Town Hall.
Clr O’Neill says he wants to run the council as a minority administration and ruled out joining an alliance with the Conservatives.
While Labour does not have enough votes for a majority, it does have more seats, 27, than any other single party. But if the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives keep their partnership, they would retain the majority and control of the Town Hall.
And the Burtonwood and Winwick councillor says voters have given his party the mandate to govern after his party received the largest number of votes in Thursday’s poll.
He added: “I said I was against the joint administration when it came in and I stick by that.
“We would rule as a minority and allow proper scrutiny by having opposition councillors chairing committees.”
And he outlined his priorities should they take over.
He said: “One clear priority is Omega.
“The strategic group had not met for four years so I would reinstate that immediately.
“And I have serious concerns over the Walton Gardens issue. People seem to have been left in the dark over this.
“It is also very important to improve the relationships within the Town Hall and let everyone know what is going on there.”
