High turnout at General Election
5:20pm Thursday 13th May 2010 in Local Election News
VOTERS turned out in their thousands for this year's election as both constituencies saw a dramatic rise in voting numbers.
The hotly contested Warrington South saw a 9.2 per cent rise in votes compared to 2005 with a total of 54,998 votes being cast during polling hours last Thursday standing at 71 per cent turnout.
Meanwhile, Warrington North also saw a 7.9 per cent increase in turnout compared to the last General Election with 44,374 votes being made, which is 63 per cent of eligible constituents voting.
There were no reports of any problems with votes being made as seen elsewhere in the country.
But candidates had to wait for eight hours before they could find out the results as the count was one of the longest in recent history.
The Warrington North result was not announced until 5.50am and Warrington South came in at 6.30am.
