THE defeated Labour candidate in Warrington South has vowed to stay in the town and continue to fight for the Warrington Labour Party.

Nick Bent says that he will stay in the town to help fight with Labour to build on support for the next General Election.

He said: “I am quite Tiggerish and will bounce back from this narrow defeat.

“I love this area and I intend to carry on living in Great Sankey and campaigning across Warrington South. I believe Labour can build a winning majority here for the next General Election.”

Mr Bent congratulated his Conservative counterpart David Mowat who was chosen to be MP.

He said: “David had a head start of three years and £150,000 on me and my team of Labour volunteers, and I am proud that Labour came within a whisker of holding the seat at a difficult time.

“David knows I will watch his performance closely and that I intend to challenge him strongly.

“I’m confident that many Labour supporters who did not vote on Thursday, and many people who voted Lib Dem, will vote Labour next time.

“The Lib Dems are in serious decline in Warrington and across the country and with a new leader the Labour party will provide the only credible challenge to the Tories next time.”
