DAVID Mowat said he was delighted to win Warrington South for the Conservatives.
He took the seat from Labour who had held the constituency since 1992.
In a close run competition Mr Mowat edged out Labour's Nick Bent by 1,553 votes as the seat was called at 6.30am.
Speaking afterwards he paid tribute to his rival saying: "Nick Bent fought a very good campaign."
Mr Mowat went on to say: "I have spent three years here in Warrington campaigning but I have enjoyed that journey, I have yet to find out whether the destination is better than the journey."
