YOUTH and community groups are Tory targets in the election battle for Warrington South.

Conservative candidate David Mowat kicked off his campaign to win over voters by visiting Lymm market and youth club.

He was joined by shadow secretary of state for communities, Caroline Spelman, as the pair looked to spread the Conservative mandate among the people of Lymm.

With the sun, and marketgoers out in force, the shadow secretary seemed to be relishing the challenge.

She said: “I am very keen to be here, we want to encourage people to vote for change.”

Improving options for young people and focusing on the growth of jobs, were highlighted by Mrs Spelman as the focus of the campaign in Lymm.

She said: “Children in communities are finding there is a real lack of things to do, so youth provision is really important.”

Tackling these issues and highlighting the problems that will be caused by Labour’s planned increases in National Insurance will be the main pull for getting voters who are unsure where to cast their vote.

She also encouraged people not to throw away their vote.

She said: “Not voting means giving your vote to someone else – it’s a vote for the extremes of politics.”
