A VEHICLE giant will take up the final plot on Omega North in a deal set to build on the site's 'success as a magnet for investment' in the region.

Omega Warrington Ltd (OWL) has completed a deal with Haydock Commercial Vehicles Ltd to develop a new 35,000 sq ft Scania maintenance facility on the land.

The company – one of the largest commercial vehicle service providers in the north west and north Wales – will be delivering services to a number of other occupiers on Omega.

This move marks the occupation of 4.2 million sq ft of logistics and industrial space across the whole of Omega after four years.

Haydock Commercial Vehicles will complete Omega North alongside Brakes, Hermes and Travis Perkins.

The announcement follows news that Amazon will create 1,200 permanent jobs by moving onto neighbouring Omega South.

OWL managing director Andrew Sutherland said he is 'delighted' to welcome the firm to the £1 billion site, which is situated on both sides of the M62 on part of the former Burtonwood airbase.

"After the success of Omega North, we aim to continue to encourage Omega South's commercial draw, building on Omega's success as a magnet for investment in the north west," he said.

"Across all of Omega's occupiers, the site supports around 7,000 jobs and we look forward to this increasing with the arrival of Haydock Commercial Vehicles and other future occupiers."

Simon Dykes, dealer principal at Haydock Commercial Vehicles, added: "We are pleased to be locating to Omega North – an established business hub in the region.

"This development represents one of the most exciting developments in the long and successful history of Haydock Commercial Vehicles.

"'Customer first' has always been our mantra and we are now looking forward to delivering the area's transport operators with a commercial vehicle facility that is truly second to none."

The site received planning permission for the new facility last November and work started on site on April 3.
