BBC presenter Louise Minchin presented at the Warrington Campus of the University of Chester in a public lecture looking not only at her career as a journalist, but also at her endeavours as a GB triathlete.

Being a top presenter is something which many aspire to, but very few achieve. It is also remarkable then that given the commitment required for elite sport she even has time to think about putting together some fantastic food, as a contestant on Celebrity Master Chef!

Louise is a high performing individual and able to excel in a number of areas. Most of us mere mortals struggle to get by in one!

So what is the secret of success? A simple equation applies two factors. Ability and motivation. A talented individual, who does not try will simply not gain from their natural advantage.

A motivated person, without great ability will only get so far (but will meet their potential!).

Put talent and drive together then you have a recipe for success.

For most of us representing your country or being a national leader in your profession is out of reach.

So meeting your potential is what counts and so motivation, and the attitude behind that, is everything.
