AN advanced custom PC-builder based in Woolston welcomed families from across the country to the north east after stepping up to sponsor an event labelled 'the only kind of its type' over the weekend.

Representatives from Computer Planet, based on Kingsland Grange, made their way to Northumbria University Students Union on Saturday and Sunday after forming an agreement to sponsor 'Nethermined 2'.

Following last year's 'huge success' organisers were anticipating another two days to remember and they were not let down after thousands of tickets were snapped up.

Nethermined 2 saw fans of online game Minecraft travel from as far as Manchester and Scotland to the north east.

As part of the sponsorship deal, Computer Planet provided expensive gaming rigs and PCs for the event.

As well a raft of well-known YouTube figures to meet including Sir Cutie Yuki, and activities, exhibitions, demonstrations and food stands, there was a dedicated parent zone, so that 'oldies' could get to grips with the 'world that kids now play in' and 'converse with them about it'.

Computer Planet, which specialises in custom PC-building and allows customers to design their own devices, has a team of 'competent and dedicated' professionals with years of experience within the IT industry.

It is also an accredited member of the PC Association, ISIS and IDIS.

Andy Barr, from Computer Planet, is tipping residents across the country to continue getting involved in similar events.

He said: "Minecraft is a gaming phenomenon that has taken the world of kids online gaming into a new dimension.

"Last year, thousands of families travelled to event and this year was set to be even more popular.

"For the north east to have the event is a real coup."

Other sponsors include gaming giant Grainger Games, Cavtec, Coatsink and ITXpress.
