A PARCEL and carrier firm has announced that it has doubled the number of employees at its Warrington depot within a year of the facility opening.
Global Freight Solutions (GFS) only began operations at the site on Taurus Business Park in Gemini in July.
But the company has described how it has recruited additional personnel because of a ‘considerable rise’ in the number of parcels which it handles.
Commercial director Daniel Ennor said the expansion meant that 22 customer service, sales and operations staff were now employed at Warrington.
He added that GFS planned to increase staff numbers still further in order to develop its customer service team.
He said: "What we’ve seen over the past year fully justifies the strategy put in place last year which saw us begin operations at Warrington, move to larger headquarters in Sussex and open our first overseas office in Athens.
“The continued growth in the volume of parcels generated by online shopping has been a significant element but is not the only factor.
“Both consumers and businesses are now demanding greater flexibility than ever before in terms of delivery and the support of specialists to manage parcels moved via a wide variety of different methods.
“That means a larger role for the kind of proactive customer service that we offer, helping deal with any issues which might arise before they become a problem for either the shipper or the recipient. In turn, that creates a need for capable individuals to join our ranks, not only in customer service but across all divisions of the company."
“We are confident that, as we continue to grow, further opportunities will appear – in Cheshire and at our other sites.”
GFS was founded in 2001 and, over the course of the past year, moved in excess of 10 million parcels on behalf of leading brands and SMEs.
