Schools go green

SEVENTEEN schools in the town are set to go green after signing up to Waste Week.

The national campaign was launched to raise awareness about the importance of reducing the amount of waste going to landfill.

Pupils will complete a range of activities during March to help reduce food and plastic waste.

Robyn Thorn, EDF Energy’s education programme manager, said: “It’s great to see so many schools in Warrington getting involved in this year’s Waste Week.

“We hope that the campaign will spark year-round behaviour change and encourage more people than ever to reduce, reuse and recycle.”

The schools taking part are Bewsey Lodge Primary School, Brromfield County Junior School, Golborne St Thomas CE Junior and Infant School, Gorse Covert Primary School, Great Sankey Primary School, Lowton Junior and Infant School, Lowton West Primary School, Sankey Valley St James CE Primary School, St Albans RC Primary School, St Barnabas CE Primary School, St Elphins Primary School, St Matthew’s CE Primary School, St Vincent’s Catholic Primary School, The Cobbs Infant and Nursery School, Twiss Green Primary School, Whitley Village School, Winwick CE Primary School.

Council move help

WARRINGTON Borough Council is working with new businesses to ensure they have a smooth transition into the town.

But although companies are being welcomed to Warrington, those already based in the area are not being ignored.

Nuclear and waste management company Kurion, which chose the town as its base ahead of Paris, Rome and London last year, has hailed the decision to set up base at Birchwood’s Cinnamon Park.

But council leader Terry O’Neill said assistance will be derived to businesses over the course of the year.

Manufacturing win

TWO Warrington manufacturers have been named regional runners-up in the prestigious EEF/Aldermore Future Manufacturing Awards.

Croft Filters and sister company Croft Additive Manufacturing, manufacturers of bespoke filters for industry sectors across the world, which employ 27 staff across the two businesses, was narrowly pipped to the post for the Business Growth Award, sponsored by Westfield Health.
