BIRCHWOOD based Tactus is a leader in innovative protection for mobile technology – creating a wide range of cases for smartphones and tablets from its offices in Olympic Park.

Offering a unique combination of function and design, Tactus caters for a modern market of connected individuals who rely on their mobile technology for everyday survival – at work and in their social lives.

CEO and founder, Scott Brenchley launched the company in 2012, alongside friend and Sales Director Sid Benson. Since then the business has seen rapid expansion, with retail partners including Argos, Selfridges, Staples and Maplin.

Q: How long have you been with the company?

Myself and our sales director Sid Benson founded Tactus in 2012. Our vision was to produce protective cases for mobile technology, which combine design with ultimate protection.

Q: What have been the highlights of your time there so far?

At the beginning of 2013, we secured our first retailer, Selfridges. It was fantastic to have endorsement of our products from such a respected retail brand. Our products are now stocked in Argos, Maplin and Staples and the company turns over around £1.3 million.

Q: What are your goals for the future?

As a business we are growing fast. We’ve just launched a new Ecommerce site – Tactus.com, where people can find out about our brand and product range, as well as purchasing items online.

In addition to this, we’re expanding our distribution. We’ve just partnered with a company in Spain which has launched our products into shops over there and are working with a growing network of distributors and retailers in the UK and abroad.

Q: How hard has it been for the business during the current economic problems?

Tactus is going from strength to strength, with YOY growth in excess of 70 per cent. In 2013, we launched product into retailers nationwide and have since seen a rapid growth in sales and increased brand awareness.

In 2014 we began a re-branding exercise to further establish ourselves as a major player in the protective cases market Q: How do you make the company stand out?

We’re the only British based brand designing cases for mobile tech. Our major competitors are all based in the US. This means that we can tailor our designs to suit the British market, supplying high quality, design lead products for modern, connected consumers.

The mobile technology market is thriving and Tactus fulfils a demand for high quality protective cases, designed specifically for a modern, connected and on-the-go audience.

Q: What about your home life?

I live locally in Warrington with my wife, Mandy and our three children – family life is important to me. We shut the Tactus offices over Christmas to let the whole team enjoy a well-earned break with their families.

When I’m not spending time with the family, I enjoy sport and exercise. Before moving into sales I was a professional footballer at Liverpool FC, Bradford City and Chester City and sport has always played a big part in my life.

Q: Where and what did you study at university?

I studied Strategic Business Management at Manchester Metropolitan University. The course was interesting and has helped me in my work at Tactus, but there is no replacement for the skills you learn on the job.

I’m a great advocate of work place learning and Tactus is looking into recruiting an apprentice to work on our social media and help the business to connect with our customers.

Q: How did you get into this type of business?

From a background as a professional footballer, my career trajectory has certainly been varied. Once I realised that a career in sport would be short lived due to injury, I began looking for further opportunities and have always had a personal interest in technology.

I spent 17 years working at Apple reseller, MMC, and worked my way up to a company director role.
