COMPANIES based in Warrington dominated the 2015 North West Civil Engineering Awards.

ICE North West – which represents the region’s 6,000 civil engineers – said the awards at Manchester’s Mercure Hotel on Friday “highlighted the fact that Warrington is a centre of civil engineering quality”.

The awards were presented by ICE’s current president, Professor David Balmforth, who grew up in Warrington.

During his speech to the 400 people at the awards dinner, Professor Balmforth described how his childhood experiences of civil engineering in Warrington inspired him to pursue civil engineering as a career, which has seen him become president of the world’s oldest civil engineering professional body.

The Institution’s regional director in the North West, Alan Butler added: “When it comes to civil engineering in North West England, it’s clear that Warrington is home to some of the leaders in the field.

“Companies based in Warrington were involved in two-thirds of the top civil engineering projects recognised at the ICE North West Annual Awards 2015."

United Utilities, MWH Global, Hyder Consulting (UK) Ltd were just some of the companies to see their work celebrated.
