WITH the end of the school summer holiday commuters will notice the increase in traffic on the roads.

Aside from the environmental impact of congestion there are penalties to businesses in the form of lost time and additional transport costs.

With Warrington being a logistics hub this is worrying. If businesses are prevented from operating efficiently then they will relocate.

The development work for Junction eight is welcome and improvements for Birchwood access essential if this longstanding business park is to continue to do well. However infrastructure developments have to work hand in hand with employers and employees.

From June 2014 legislation regarding flexible working has been extended to all employees (not just those with children). By providing flexible working (where possible) then employers are likely to retain the best employees and they are more likely to be motivated by better working arrangements.

In addition schools could help the overall congestion problem too.

The ‘school run’ sees a surge in traffic and a dash for parents getting to work afterwards.

If schools staggered start times this could help to spread the peak activity too. So to keep Warrington moving all parties need to work together.
