This week in his regular column, he discusses the events industry.

SUMMER is the season for outdoor events, even though rain may still be an issue!

There are a number of shows and festivals which crowd the weekends of July and August.

The recent ‘Carfest North’ event at Oulton Park (just down the A49) brought with it thousands of visitors each spending around £60 each just for an entry ticket.

Hosted and promoted by the DJ Chris Evans the event drew national primetime exposure on Radio 2.

Just prior to that the Nantwich Show (a little further down the A49) was featured on national television as a leading ‘country’ event of its kind.

Apparently the cheese hall was amazing! Thousands of visitors spent freely.

Although events such as these bring a short-term economic benefit to the area they are also useful in promoting a place, after all not too many people from across the country could probably tell you where Nantwich is exactly?

In my recent visit to a company in the region (a global player) they referred to themselves as the ‘Manchester branch’, even though they are based in Warrington. Disappointing.

So how about events raising the profile of the town?

But where would Warrington hold its’ Woodstock?
