More places for primary schools
3:00pm Monday 22nd October 2012 in News
PRIMARY schools in inner Warrington will get more school places as a growing population of children in those areas hits school intake.
Councillors on the executive board approved plans to expand places in a number of schools across the town to tackle the problem.
Bewsey Lodge, Evelyn Street, St Andrews CE, Great Sankey and Park Road primary schools will all see their level of pupils rise through extra places and for some it would include remodelling of the school sites to accommodate the extra children.
Clr Colin Froggatt, executive board member for children and young people’s services, said: “Lots of councils now are having this issue where they have enough primary school places but not in the right place.
“One of the reasons this is happening is that the recession and housing market has changed. Families who would normally live in flats and small houses would have moved on to other areas in the borough.
“Families are moving into more affordable housing and we can see it impacting on inner Warrington.”
