Online auction launches for furniture company

AN online auction is selling the remaining stock from Andrew Harris - which went into administration last month.

The furniture company, which was based on Dial Street, closed in September, another victim of the economic climate.

There are 600 lots available online in two batches, the first closes at 10am on Wednesday and the second at 10am on Thursday.

Kerry Bailey, the joint administrator and a partner in PKF’s Corporate Recovery team in Manchester, said: “J. Harris & Sons was a family business that traded for more than 70 years with a good name within the retail furniture market. “Efforts were made by management over the last few months to turn the business around but the retail market is incredibly difficult, particularly for furniture, and they could not generate the volume to keep the company afloat. “It’s desperately sad for everyone involved but, unfortunately, it’s far from unique.

“The auction comprises over 600 lots and includes a wide range of household furniture – everything from lamps, cabinets and mirrors to beds, tables and sofas. Proceeds will be used to repay creditors.”

The company operated two furniture shops under the trading names of Andrew Harris Furniture in Warrington and Mr Bedds in Altrincham.

Customers who paid for goods or left deposits at either Andrew Harris Furniture or Mr Bedds and have not received them are advised to email cri.manchester@uk.pkf.com. To see the auction visit eddisons.com/online.
