AS winter approaches, health chiefs are calling on residents at greatest risk from flu to get their free flu jab.

Pensioners aged 65 or over, pregnant women, and those with health conditions such as severe asthma, chest or heart complaints and diabetes are all being encouraged to visit their GP to ‘get flu safe’.

Carers and frontline health and social care staff are also encouraged to get vaccinated protect themselves and those around them.

A spokesman said: “The flu vaccine changes every year to fight the latest strains of flu, so even if you had a jab last winter you need another one this year.”

last year when i used to live in oakwood i went to birchwood docs and tried to get a flu jab as i have a health condition in the list i was told and i quote "you will need to wait a month or so till all the elderly people have had there's as we only have a certain amount of flu vaccine if there is any left you can have the jab" in he end i didn't get the jab and i caught the flu. I'm not opposed to the elderly people getting it first. its a good idea but the fact they said its open to anybody who needs it when that just isn't true. with a new docs now anyway

I have never had any trouble getting the jab. I am in the category and I attended my clinics late night on the 1st October to have it, along with hundreds of others. I know in previous years the clinic has ran out but having had the flu, I always ring mid Sept to try and get myself booked in ready for the 1st October!
Your old doctors had the wrong attitude, you wouldnt think they got paid for giving it out.
