Police message for Old Trafford
OFFICERS from Greater Manchester Police are gearing up for Warrington Wolves’ Grand Final clash at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Superintendent John Graves said: “For several years, GMP has been policing this fixture and it is a day all officers are delighted to be involved in.
"Historically, all fans have behaved and enjoyed themselves and we intend to ensure that does not change this year.
“As always, officers will be on hand to ensure people stay safe and it is a day to remember for all supporters, no matter what the result on the pitch is.
"I'd advise anyone travelling to the game to plan their journey well in advance and to leave themselves plenty of time to get here.
“Park sensibly, and think about your surroundings and keep yourself and your valuables safe.
"An on-street drinking bye-law exists in Trafford and fans are not allowed to drink alcohol on the streets around the stadium.
“Once inside the stadium, while there will be plenty of places where fans can obtain food and drink, they will not be allowed to have alcohol anywhere within the sight of the pitch.
“Officers will be supporting grounds staff in enforcing those rules.
"The game of rugby league is loved by many people across the globe and is a sport the whole family can enjoy.
“Win or lose, I hope all fans can leave Old Trafford knowing they have had a good day out."

Sports grounds obviously have to take into account their primary purpose when seeking opertaing licences from the "authorities". If the relevant govnerning body insist on "no drinking in the bowl" for Old Trafford to open then there is little the teams, the RFL or the management of OT can do about it.
