Police increase patrols over road concerns in Orford Police increase patrols over road concerns in Orford

RESIDENTS in Orford met with councillors to discuss traffic concerns.

Cars cutting through Smith Drive and Withers Avenue continue to cause safety fears among homeowners.

An access only sign is ignored by drivers cutting through to the Birchwood Expressway.

Clr Kelly Simcock (LAB) and Clr Mike Hannon (LAB) held a meeting at the Orford Jubilee Hub on Monday.

They proposed creating new access and exit points to the estate, but the idea was rejected by more than 120 residents at the meeting.

Clr Simcock said: “This is still a huge and important issue for people who are concerned about their children and elderly people being injured.”

Cheshire Police has agreed to increase patrols in the area to enforce the access only rule until a solution is found.

warringtons roads are so congested because of all the buffoonery at WBC - smith drive and withers road - should be made one way , with traffic calming measures of course.

one way to hilden island, and the other the opposite way,

residents are gonna whinge, cos its fine for them to come down my street to cut out from the traffic, but its not fine the other way round - typical NIMBY's !

Can I please ask why was Smith Drive made an access only road in the first place?.

I think Clr Simcock's comments ring true but is that not the case for every other residential road in the country.

Why do these road warranty special needs, when was the last time there was an accident?

It was following the fatal accident involving a car cutting through and a child. Smith drive Is Residential street which currently carries well over 1000 cars a day.

chunky junky please do not take this the wrong way, but doesn't this warrant the council to look into this further as it shows that there is a real need for a direct road to the expressway from orford park area.

However we all know how WBC are with roads.

I would also like to point out that Hilden Road is also an access only road which as also had many accidents, but again used as a through road.

There is a real need to look at all traffic flow in that area of Warrington.

This was discussed with the council, the original plan to continue the Birchwood expressway through the original rylands site or the initial plan of a 'flyover' too, all were rejected a few years back by Cllr Mike Hannon and crew. Also there is 'no budget' for the road extension (there would be a lot more money if they didn’t waste money changing lanes on the causeway and bridgefoot every 3 weeks!!)

Totally agree, Hilden road also often cops for the increased traffic flow coming from across Warrington cutting through and those trying to avoid the A49.

One of the biggest things raised in the meeting was enforcement by the police, someone in the meeting made the point that there is no point in any signage or flow changes if its not enforced by the police, i appreciate there are better things the police should be doing but the whole exercise would be pointless without extra enforcement.

There is also issue with traffic calming measure due to the roads dimensions and the use of it by buses.

What ever happens its always going to be a problem, the planning department clearly didn’t see the future of Warrington when the initial planning of things like the express way was conceived.
