Conmen trick pensioner to steal money from her home

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after conmen tricked their way into the home of an 82-year-old woman to steal money saved for Christmas presents.

The pensioner was alone at her home on Churchill Avenue, Culcheth Wednesday, September 26, when a man knocked on the door at around 6.30pm.

He claimed to need access to check her water as there had been a burst in the street due to floods.

Police say she let him in and he began working on taps underneath the sink.

The victim then noticed two other men in the hallway who shouted that they were ‘all done’ and left.

A short time later, the third man also left and the elderly lady discovered that the money had been taken from her bedroom.

The first man is described as white, in his early 20's, of medium build, 5ft 11ins tall and clean shaven. He wore black clothing.

The second man is described as 5ft 9ins tall, of medium build and aged around 40.

Anyone with information can call DC Carol McCormick on 01606 363839.

its clear a scheme needs to be really pushed to arrange a password system between the customer and the water company, so that they can ask the person stood on the step for it, if they dont know it then they dont let them in.

these vunerable people are easy pray for the horrid tossers who deserve a long and painfull death.

and i hope if they get to be a pensioner they are treated in the same was as they treated there victims.

There's already a password scheme with United Utilities plus any customer can ask for id and call United Utilites to verify the callers id. Genuine water board employees will actually offer this information to elderly customers even if they don't ask for it
