Spanish hounds need pet passports

Spanish hounds need pet passports Spanish hounds need pet passports

AN animal charity have been saying ‘hola’ to two pooches looking for homes after they were flown over from Spain.

Pastor, aged five, and Suzi, aged 2, needed their pet passports to leave the Murcia region and head to kennels at Warrington Animal Welfare after a southern England rescue charity saved them from appalling conditions in a Spanish sanctuary.

Janet Thornton, from the charity, said: “We had heard from a long-time supporter of the charity there were dogs in poor conditions and only getting three 15 minute walks a week.

“Pastor had been at the sanctuary for three years and we found someone had cut his ears.

“We’re seeing a lot of dogs being dumped in Spain as ex-pats return home due to the financial situation.

“We hope we can find a good home for Suzi as Pastor has already found a home and if it works we hope to bring more dogs over from Spain.”

Good heavens! Are there not enough home grown dogs in need of rehoming without importing more, some of which will probably not understand english?

Loads of dogs are dumped on the costa blanca nr Murcia . I know ex pats that have saved dogs from skips and wondering the streets. The dogs are the victims but should be dealt with in Spain not here. It's ashame but we have loads to deal with in the uk already .. Maybe they should set a charity up on the costa !

Watch who you are calling idiots. No-one suggested that they chose to come here. I am talking about someone importing them here when kennels are already packed with unwanted dogs here.

Most of them are british dogs that have been left ... and have a right to return

Warrington Animal Welfare is a completely volunteer run rescue that has been established for over 30 years - WAW was originally set up to run neutering campaigns - this we still do today in Warrington and surrounding areas, as well as helping animals that find their way to us. We are a small band of proactive animal lovers who actually like to make a difference - it makes me smile when i read comments from people who like to talk the talk but dont do anything about anything - we like to call you people 'Armchair Rescuers' in other words stop complaining and moaning and actually try making a difference to the lives of the animals in the world that sadly are unable to choose the life they end up living and the sometimes the horrible situations they find themselves in.

So import them all into the UK, why don't you? Doesn't matter that we already have so many unwanted and homeless already, eh what?

WAW... I see my donations are not being used to reduce the stray,s in warrington as I was led to believe..?? Perhaps my money will be of better use to the RSPCA in future.

old-codger May I set the record straight the rescue in Spain paid for ALL expenses for these dogs to come to the UK we are merely assisting with their rehoming. All our money IS spent on neutering maybe you would like to come and help us do our Longford neutering campaign we are always looking for volunteers (unpaid of course) Also just to clarify the situation the RSPCA do not assist with the general public neutering, all calls are directed to WAW from the RSPCA at Warrington. Please feel free to call us then we can show you our £3500 vet bill for just one month spent entirely on neutering I am sure Beech House Vets would second this. I have spent over 30 years of my life dedicated to helping animals have you? I dont hide behind my name either Janet Thornton - Treasurer/Trustee WAW

I have spent over 30 years donating money to animal welfare groups including WOW so get over yourself, I wouldnt set foot in longford if you paid me, I am aware that you are in beech house and the work you do, The point of this conversation is.......Importing dogs from abroad in order to re-house them here, We have enough dogs that need re-housing as you know very well and its a difficult task. I have always donated to animal welfare groups and if my money is being spent on imported dogs then I will give my money to another animal charity. Get off your high horse and join the conversation as it started and not how you would like to see it.

You clearly have not read my response properly no WAW money has been spent on these dogs. To say you would'nt step foot in Longford is an awful thing to say so many animals on the Densham Ave estate have benefited fom our neutering scheme which will in effect reduce the amount of unwanted animals. To have an attitude like yours is not going to help any animals in any way. How strange you are against helping animals abroad and wouldnt help animals in Longford either.

As I said my donations will go elsewhere in future, It is clearly not going where it was intended to go. By the way I have three dogs, All chipped, Well looked after, Vets bills paid by me. When you re-house these two imported dogs you are taking away two places for two dogs from this country, Animals in this country need re-housing, When you run short of dogs to re-house then consider importing them..

Old Codger for once i must agree with your comments, in my opinion it may be a stunt, but its backfired people may look at this and decide they wont support them. people see no need to get involved with other countries stray dogs.

Thank you dr,

They do good work but I was told my money supports strays in the Warrington area, When these two dogs get re-housed they take a good home off Warrington stray,s.

I wouldnt dream of having a dog if if I couldnt look after it but I know they get a lot of strays that need new homes. Warrington dogs need homes and should come first. Still I learned my lesson..
