MORE than 130 reports of flooding have been reported to Warrington Borough Council following this week's rain.

The council has also reported that more than 3,500 sandbags have been deployed across the borough in the past 48 hours while all gully wagons and pumping units have been out.

A spokesman said: "All highways and flood risk teams have been on call this week and are monitoring high risk areas overnight through this unprecedented wet period.

"The council has contracted four crews to assist in the distribution of sandbags during the day and three crews working overnight.

"The flood defence works in Densham Avenue have removed over 2000 cubic metres (approximately a swimming pool’s worth of water) over the last 24 hours."

Meanwhile drivers using Cromwell Avenue are asked to give extra time for their journey as it is flooded while Burford Lane in Lymm and Hawley's Lane in Dallam remain closed.

Flooding is also affecting Widnes Road near Fiddler's Ferry.

No doubt some of this work was carried out by yet more external contractors, being payed ext-ornate sums of money for out of hours work, the council should have its own teams in place for these problems and cease using contractors at extra cost to us.
