A COUPLE from Padgate were Turkish celebrities for the day when they became the first pair to tie the knot at one of the country’s famous landmarks.

Scott Palfrey, aged 37, and his new wife Tracey Bold, aged 40, had no idea of the significance of choosing the Marmaris Amphitheatre as their wedding setting until they were greeted by swarms of TV crews and reporters from magazines and newspapers.

Dorothy Palfrey, Scott’s mum, said: “We didn’t know about the press beforehand and were looking round wondering why they were there.

“The amphitheatre was a place Scott and his dad always used to go so he asked if it was possible and a local councillor in Turkey helped him organise it.

“The Turkish people were brilliant and it was a fantastic day.”

Woolston leisure centre manager Scott, who met Tracey almost eight years ago when she worked at the centre as a fitness instructor, said Turkey meant a lot to him as it was the last place he went on holiday with his dad Christopher before he died from cancer eight years ago aged 57.

He added: “It just seemed like the right place to get married for a lot of sentimental reasons so we made some enquiries about 12 months beforehand.

“I had proposed in Turkey and we had my dad’s wedding ring melted down to make mine and Tracey’s wedding rings over there.

“It took a lot of work but it was all worth it in the end.

“I thought there would be one local reporter there but didn’t realise the cameras were there for us until I started hearing my name.”

Scott and Tracey, who now runs her own personal training business and has a 13-year-old son called Owen, added they are happy to return to normality after their 15 minutes of fame at the holiday destination.
