Town's VIP centre opens
THE new centre to house the Warrington VIP centre for visually impaired people has opened.
Mayor Clr Steve Wright and Wolfie were on hand to open the centre at the Fairfield and Howley Porject on Fairfield Street.
The charity has changed names from Warrington Blind Society to Warrington VIP to coincide with the move.
Chairman Alderman John Taylor said: “We need a building fit for purpose and we now have one, complete with disabled toilets, a resource area, lounge and activity area.”
Fundraisers have been working for three years to help pay for the move, with £400 coming from Sohri Ria Bhalla at the summer WECA festival in Queen;s Gardens, a large donation from John Mason and Keith Bretherton, who collected £1,000 by running the Warrington Half Marathon.
The centre is open for visually impaired people and their family and friends between 9.30am and 5pm Monday to Thursday. For more information call 632700 or e-mail info@warringtonvip.org.uk.
Anyone interested in volunteering on a Tuesday or Thursday afternoon should call the above number.
